Senior Social Worker, Children with Disabilities Team

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Social Worker to join the Children with Disabilities Team at Birmingham Children's Trust. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people with disabilities, working within a supportive and collaborative environment rated 'Good' by Ofsted.

This is a chance to make a genuine and lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable children and their families by providing a high-quality, child-centred social work service. The role requires a dedicated and compassionate professional with experience in children's social care, a strong understanding of relevant legislation, and the ability to manage a complex caseload effectively.

Summary of the Job

  • To lead on complex casework and provide expert guidance to less experienced social workers within the Children with Disabilities Team.

  • To conduct thorough and analytical assessments, and develop comprehensive, multi-agency care plans for children and their families.

  • To work closely with a range of professionals, including those in health, education, and the police, to ensure a cohesive and holistic approach to support.

  • To contribute to the continuous improvement of the service, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice guidelines.

  • To represent the Trust in court proceedings and other key meetings, providing high-quality, evidence-based reports.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage a complex caseload of children and young people with disabilities.

  • Complete statutory assessments, including Child and Family Assessments, and develop Child in Need and Child Protection plans.

  • Provide advice, support, and professional supervision to social workers and students.

  • Conduct home visits and direct work with families to provide practical and emotional support.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on all cases using management information systems.

  • Actively participate in team meetings, service reviews, and multi-agency forums.

  • Identify and address safeguarding issues, ensuring the well-being and safety of the child is paramount.
