Location: Telford
Hours: Full-time, permanent

About the Company

We're a well-established gas delivery business based in Telford, currently expanding our operations and bringing our vehicle maintenance in-house. To support this growth, we're looking to recruit our first-ever HGV Technician - someone who can take ownership of our fleet workshop, lead all maintenance activities, and help us build an efficient, professional setup from the ground up.

The Role

This is a hands-on position for an experienced HGV Technician / Workshop Manager who's confident in every aspect of heavy vehicle maintenance and management. You'll take full control of the workshop and play a key role in developing our internal maintenance operation.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out servicing, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on a mixed fleet of HGVs and trailers.

  • Oversee all MOT preparations, ensuring vehicles meet DVSA standards.

  • Manage engine, gearbox, brake, and electrical work independently.

  • Take charge of the day-to-day running of the workshop and set up systems for preventative maintenance.

  • Identify and recommend equipment, tools, and systems needed to establish a fully functional workshop.

  • Maintain service records and ensure full compliance with safety and transport regulations.

  • Work closely with management to plan maintenance schedules and minimise vehicle downtime.

  • Support the company's growth by building a reliable, well-organised maintenance function.

About You

We're looking for someone who's more than just a skilled mechanic - you'll be the go-to person for all fleet and workshop matters, setting the standard for quality and professionalism.
Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an HGV Technician / Workshop Supervisor / Workshop Manager.

  • In-depth knowledge of HGV maintenance, diagnostics, and repair (mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic).

  • Experience preparing vehicles for MOT testing.

  • Ability to manage workshop operations and introduce effective maintenance processes.

  • Confident in identifying necessary tools, equipment, and workshop setup requirements.

  • Full UK driving licence (HGV licence advantageous).

  • Strong problem-solving skills and proactive work ethic.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a growing business where you'll shape how the workshop operates.

  • Take ownership of your work and lead with autonomy.

  • Work directly with senior management and have a real impact on operations.

  • Competitive salary and long-term stability.
