Bookkeeper (12 Month FTC)

A maternity cover opportunity for a Bookkeeper based in Weston-super-Mare, supporting a growing hospitality business with Sage-based bookkeeping, payroll, and financial reporting. The role offers flexibility and can be full-time, condensed hours, or part-time for the right candidate

The client is a well-established, growing business in the hospitality sector, known for its fast-paced environment and commitment to operational excellence. They're currently seeking maternity cover for a key finance role and are open to flexible working arrangements.

Description

• Maintain accurate financial records using Sage accounting software
• Process and reconcile accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger entries
• Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations
• Manage VAT returns and liaise with HMRC
• Oversee end-to-end payroll processing, including PAYE, pensions, and holiday pay
• Prepare and distribute payslips, P45s, and year-end summaries
• Produce monthly and quarterly management accounts and cash flow reports
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling
• Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls
• Support process improvements and automation initiatives

Profile

• Experienced in bookkeeping and financial control, ideally with at least 3 years in a similar role
• Proficient in Sage accounting software (essential)
• Confident managing payroll, including PAYE, pensions, and statutory compliance
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
• Able to work independently and handle sensitive financial information with discretion
• Comfortable producing management accounts and supporting budgeting and forecasting
• Open to process improvement and automation initiatives
• AAT qualified or qualified by experience
• Flexible and adaptable - open to full-time, condensed hours, or part-time working
