Job Description

Laboratories and Cleanroom Technician

Location: London, WC1

Days: Monday to Friday

Hours: 09:00am - 17:00pm

Duration: This is a temporary post with chance of extension.

Pay Rate: 19.14 to 21.98 per hour.

We are delighted to be supporting our client to recruit for a 'Laboratories and Cleanroom Technician' on a temporary basis!

Job key duties:

General Maintenance

  • Maintenance of all Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Preparation of servicing visits.
  • Stocking up on consumables and organising waste collections.
  • Ensuring all risk assessments are up to date.
  • Ensuring individuals working in the clean room have the appropriate documented training.
  • Control laboratories usage and disposal of chemicals in accordance with the departments chemical policy.

Equipment Maintenance & Supervision

  • Mentoring new users of equipment as appropriate.
  • Providing samples for learning the methods.
  • Undertaking routine testing of the machines.
  • All routine maintenance required for machines, (e.g. changing gas bottles).
  • Undertaking Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).

Technical Duties

The post holder regularly makes or requests items from the workshop. The post holder will be expected to maintain and utilise the equipment within the Cleanroom and laboratories shared by the department.

The postholder will be expected to develop competence with the following equipment usages and techniques for the BPL group: The postholder will be expected to develop competence with the following equipment usages and techniques for the BPL group:

  • Gyratory spinning rigs.
  • Routine Characterisation stations (e.g. microscopy, physical measurements, UV-visible equipment, high-speed cameras, SEM)

Research Support

The post holder will be expected to be involved in research projects and to help run experiments in the various research teams. Examples of such projects include from BPL are:

  • Creating nanoparticles for drug delivery by electrohydrodynamic (EHD) spraying (single and coaxial needle set up) (BPL)
  • Running template assisted hydroxyapatite deposition onto Titanium alloys experiment by EHD (BPL)
  • Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis of samples (BPL)
  • Learning about cell culture technique (BPL)

Key Person Specification:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (including Mathematics and English Language) or equivalent, or having acquired relevant experience.
  • Awareness of Health and Safety requirements within a laboratory.
  • An aptitude for practical engineering work, i.e. able to make things and mend them.
