Job Description

Our well established client is currently looking to recruit a HGV I driver, to join their team, on an ongoing, temporary basis, Starting on 5th January 2026

£17.93ph for the first 8 hours, rising to £20.78ph after 8 hours

Job role:

  • Provision of first class safe, efficient and customer focused delivery and collection services within the Network
  • Comply with issued start times in line with contractual requirements
  • Conduct collections and deliveries in accordance with the plan and/or instructions from the transport office
  • Conduct collections and deliveries within the timeframes outlined
  • Ensure all delivery documentation and electronic POD s are completed accurately and in real time during a working shift
  • Operate all provided IT hardware and systems in line with training and operational requirements
  • To engage with the font line transport teams on daily brief and de-brief
  • To participate in regular 1-2-1 s with their nominated Transport FLM s
  • Ensure a thorough working knowledge of the regulations under which they operate and in particular the Highway Code & Road Traffic Act 1988, and Road Safety Act 2006
  • Operate in line with all legal requirements and ensure full compliance with tachograph and working time legislation
  • Operate in line with company Health and safety policy and procedures, following approved risk assessments and ensuring live assessments of risks in the workplace (dynamic risk assessments
  • Provide suggestions and opportunities to enhance operational performance as well as health and safety within operations
  • Ensure the correct and appropriate load security is in place before moving any goods in a vehicle or trailer
  • Act as an ambassador of the company with customers and the public, conducting yourself in a professional manner, being polite, courteous, and helpful
  • Ensure a professional and efficient service to our customers
  • Wear the company uniform and the appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) provide
  • Only drive vehicles for which you are authorised to do so, ensuring that you have been fully familiarise
  • Have on their person their Driver Licence, DQC Card and Tachograph card at all times during working hours
  • To comply with company policies on medical requirements and examinations
  • To conduct a full and thorough pre-shift inspection of vehicles and trailers in advance of their operation and to comply with the defect reporting process, ensuring all defective vehicles, trailers and equipment are reported immediately
  • Ensure the safe coupling and un-coupling procedures for trailers are adhered to
  • To treat company vehicles and equipment in line with training avoiding any misuse and abuse, and minimising any damage
  • To comply with training requirements
  • Report any vehicles accidents, incidents of collisions in line with the Policy and the Bump Card process
  • Follow Company/customer specific procedures on their premises and with their goods during delivery and collection
  • Operation of Forward-Facing Cameras in line with policies and procedures.

In order to apply, you must possess the following:

HGV I Licence

Previous professional driving experience

Good geographical knowledge

Ability to follow operational, legal, and H&S procedures

Ability to read, understand and follow direction/instructions

Good communication skills

Excellent time management

Working understanding of legal requirements, highway code and road traffic act

Work well in teams as individually

Complete routine vehicle checks

Experience of securing loads within vehicles and/or trailers.
