SEND Learning Teaching Assistant

Reed Education are supporting a secondary school looking for a SEND Teaching Assistant, where you will play a pivotal role in supporting pupils, parents, and teachers. This position is crucial in establishing a supportive learning environment that enables all students to make good academic progress, regardless of their background. This role is to start temporary however they ideally want the successful candidate to move into a permanent opportunity.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Support students on a 1:1 and group basis
- Support pupil learning through the delivery of specific learning programmes, setting high expectations while encouraging their independence and building their confidence.
- Promote relational practice and inclusion, encouraging pupils to interact and work collaboratively.
- Work with the SENCO and other teachers to assess the needs of individual children, contribute to and implement Individual Learning Plans and EHCPs.
- Adapt and develop resources for EAL and SEND pupils, ensuring their safety and enabling them to access the curriculum.
- Assist with follow-through for related services such as speech/language/physical therapy.
- Observe, record, and feedback information on pupil performance.
- Assist in creating materials for curriculum delivery and display boards.
- Supervise pupils in playgrounds, lunchrooms etc., and assist with general pastoral care.
- Accompany teachers and pupils on trips and out of school activities as required within contract hours, taking responsibility for pupils under the supervision of the teacher.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in a similar role within an educational setting is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with pupils, promoting positive relationships and a strong classroom presence.
- Knowledge of strategies to support inclusive education, particularly for EAL and SEND pupils.
- Strong communication skills, capable of working with colleagues and external contacts at all levels of seniority with confidence, tact, and diplomacy.
- Commitment to the safety and welfare of children and young people.
