Job Description

Project Engineer (Mechanical)

  • Job Type: Permanent
  • Salary: £45,000-£46,000
  • Location: Northumberland
  • Working Hours: 35.5 hours per week, early finish Fridays

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Manage assigned projects from inception to completion, ensuring delivery against agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Prepare and present proposals for projects, including cost justifications and progress updates.
  • Review and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise across design, development, installation, and commissioning phases.
  • Produce and interpret 2D and 3D engineering drawings using design software such as Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
  • Identify and drive process improvements related to quality, machine efficiency, and safety performance.
  • Advise on spare parts requirements for new equipment, including recommended minimum stock levels.
  • Evaluate potential subcontractors based on cost, delivery performance, and quality metrics.
  • Appoint and manage subcontractors, ensuring work complies with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Maintain oversight of activities requiring compliance with relevant construction regulations (e.g., CDM where applicable).
  • Ensure all project activities adhere to recognised safety, environmental, and operational standards.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies and authorities when required.
  • Identify technical or site-specific issues and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, or HNC/HND with significant relevant experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience within mechanical engineering, capital project management, or a similar environment.
  • Experience managing projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor).
