Town Planner / Senior Town Planner

Location: Canterbury, KentPrivate Consultancy Hybrid Working Career Progression

I'm currently working with a well-established and highly regarded independent planning consultancy based in Canterbury that is looking to appoint either a Town Planner or Senior Town Planner, depending on experience.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing practice with a strong reputation across the South East, working on a diverse portfolio of projects and enjoying genuine support for career progression.

The Opportunity

You'll be joining a close-knit planning team that advises a wide range of clients including private developers, landowners, and investors. Projects span residential, commercial and mixed-use developments, offering plenty of variety and scope to build your technical and client-facing skills.

The consultancy prides itself on being professional but personable - you'll have autonomy in your role, access to senior decision-makers, and the chance to play a visible part in the ongoing growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparing, submitting and managing planning applications

  • Providing planning advice to clients and stakeholders

  • Undertaking site appraisals and planning research

  • Drafting planning statements, appeals and supporting documents

  • Liaising with local authorities, consultants and clients

  • (Senior level) Mentoring junior planners and helping develop client relationships

About You
  • Degree qualified in Town Planning or a related discipline

  • MRTPI or working towards chartership

  • Experience in private consultancy or local authority planning

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Commercial awareness and a proactive approach

  • For Senior level: confidence managing projects and client relationships
