Job Description

Aspiring Secondary School Teacher? Get Classroom Experience Before You Train

Are you thinking about becoming a secondary school teacher - but want real, first-hand classroom experience before committing to teacher training?

Or maybe you're a graduate, youth worker, tutor, or have experience working with young people and you're curious about life in a secondary school?

We work closely with secondary schools across Bolton and are currently looking for aspiring teachers to join us as Cover Supervisors, supporting schools on an ad-hoc, flexible basis.

What is a Cover Supervisor role?

As a Cover Supervisor, you'll step into the classroom when a teacher is absent, delivering pre-set work and helping keep students engaged and on track. You're not expected to plan lessons or mark work - this role is about gaining confidence, experience, and insight into secondary education.

Why this role is ideal if you're considering teaching

  • Gain hands-on classroom experience in secondary schools
  • Build confidence managing a classroom and working with teenagers
  • Understand how schools really work day-to-day
  • Strengthen your application for PGCE / teacher training
  • Try the role before committing to formal teaching qualifications

Who we're looking for

  • Graduates (any subject) considering a career in teaching
  • People with experience working with children or young people
  • Confident, approachable individuals who can engage secondary-age students
  • Those looking for flexible, ad-hoc work alongside other commitments

What we offer

  • Flexible work to suit your availability
  • Opportunities in secondary schools across Bolton
  • Ongoing support from a friendly, experienced supply team
  • A genuine stepping stone into teaching and education

If you're curious about teaching and want to experience the classroom first-hand, this is a great place to start.

Apply now or get in touch for an informal chat - we're always happy to talk through whether this role is right for you.
