Director of Infrastructure & Technology Operations

This role combines strategic vision, hands-on modernisation, and cultural leadership to build a cloud-first, customer-centric, and highly reliable technology environment.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Director of Infrastructure & Technology Operations to lead an enterprise-wide modernisation across cloud platforms, networks, service management, end-user computing, observability, and operational excellence. You will set the strategy and lead a full transformation, ensuring both innovation and world-class BAU service delivery.
This role is ideal for a senior leader who delivers at pace, inspires teams, and knows how to balance transformation, operational stability, compliance, and cost governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the multi-year modernisation of infrastructure and operations, transforming culture, delivery models, and ways of working.
- Drive Service Desk transformation, elevating it from a traditional ticket-driven team to a modern, customer-focused function with improved first-contact resolution, knowledge management, automation, and mature incident/problem/change processes.
- Establish and execute enterprise infrastructure strategy, ensuring secure, scalable, reliable and cost-efficient services.
- Complete cloud migration and lead cloud consolidation, governance, automation, and operational optimisation.
- Build a mature FinOps practice, embedding forecasting, cost transparency, chargeback/showback, cloud optimisation and continuous financial governance into operational rhythms.
- Oversee networks, hybrid connectivity, telephony, AV and workplace technologies, supporting seamless hybrid work.
- Modernise end-user computing with modern device management, efficient life cycle processes, and improved hybrid collaboration experiences.
- Lead service management evolution, selecting modern tooling and blending ITIL with agile ways of working.
- Implement unified observability, monitoring and analytics to enable proactive operations and data-driven decision-making.
- Drive innovation, evaluating emerging technologies (including AI/ML for operations) that increase reliability and efficiency.
- Build and develop high-performing teams with clear capability models, engineering disciplines, and structured career pathways.
- Lead vendor strategy, contractual governance, risk management, and financial optimisation across infrastructure.
About You
You will bring:
- 10+ years' senior leadership experience across infrastructure and operations in complex organisations.
- A proven track record shaping and delivering large-scale transformation programmes, including service management and cloud modernisation.
- Deep experience with cloud platforms (preferably Azure), modern networking, workplace technology, and service management frameworks.
- Demonstrable success in Service Desk transformation, improving maturity, quality, customer outcomes, and operational efficiency.
- Strong FinOps capability, with experience building or maturing cloud financial management functions.
- Expertise in monitoring, observability and SRE-aligned operational practices.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.
- Experience in regulated industries is advantageous but not essential.
Location & Working Model
Based in East Midlands or London with a hybrid working pattern.
