HGV Mechanic / Fitter

  • Annual Salary: Negotiable (dependent on experience)
  • Location: CO Postcode Area
  • Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
  • Working Hours: 07:00 - 16:00 (Monday to Friday)

We are seeking an experienced HGV Mechanic / Fitter to join our in-house workshop team. This flexible, hands-on role involves working across a varied fleet including HGVs, light vans, beavertails, water jetting machines, and specialist installation plant. The position is ideal for a practical, adaptable mechanic with strong servicing and inspection experience, who is also comfortable supporting yard operations alongside workshop duties.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on various vehicles including HGVs, light vans, beavertails, and specialist installation plant.
  • Undertake 6-weekly inspections in line with company and legal requirements.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and complete repairs efficiently and safely.
  • Use and maintain workshop tools and equipment.
  • Support yard duties, including loading and unloading vehicles, forklift operation, and general yard organisation and safety.
  • Ensure accurate completion of inspection and service records.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, health & safety, and compliance.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven mechanic experience, particularly with HGVs.
  • Minimum Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance / Mechanics (or equivalent).
  • Experience servicing and maintaining multiple vehicle types.
  • Comfortable working on both light vans and heavy commercial vehicles.
  • Flexible approach to workload and duties.
  • Set of tools to be equipped for the role.
  • Desirable:
    • HGV licence.
    • Forklift driving experience (or willingness to be trained).
    • Experience with specialist plant or installation equipment (not essential).
