Senior Structural Engineer

This role involves acting as the Project Engineer and assisting in the management of small to large scale projects across new residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
The successful candidate will be responsible for directing, coordinating, and supervising junior staff, as well as managing design calculations, resources, and budgets for various projects.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Act as the Project Engineer for small to large scale civil or building projects.
- Direct, coordinate, and supervise junior staff employed on the project.
- Prepare and check design calculations for all structural elements ensuring overall stability and robustness.
- Liaise with the Project Director to discuss specialist advice and appropriate design models.
- Prepare and check drawings, sketches, and specifications as required.
- Manage the design budget and programme on a day-to-day basis.
- Conduct civil and structural engineering surveys/assessments of existing structures and prepare technical reports.
- Assist in the preparation of schedules of work, bills of quantities, and conditions of contract for civil engineering works.
- Perform site inspections during construction to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications.
- Liaise directly with clients, councils, authorities, and other professionals involved in the project.
- Keep up to date with technical developments through literature, courses, and seminars, committing to a minimum of 15 hours of relevant CPD per year.
- Mentor and coach other staff members in their development.
- Assist in the day-to-day management of the office and actively market the practice to procure commissions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Structural Engineer, ideally within a similar role.
- Strong ability to prepare and check design calculations and technical drawings.
- Excellent project management skills and experience in supervising junior staff.
- Good communication skills with the ability to liaise with various stakeholders.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
- Knowledge of relevant software and compliance with Quality and Environmental policies.
