Job Description

Graduate Town Planner

Location: Bury St EdmundsSalary: Competitive + benefitsType: Full-time, permanent

I'm currently working with a well-established and highly regarded planning consultancy based in Bury St Edmunds, who are looking to bring a Graduate Town Planner into their growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate (or soon-to-be graduate) who's keen to build a long-term career in town planning within a supportive, professional environment that genuinely invests in development and training.

The Role

As a Graduate Town Planner, you'll work alongside experienced planners on a wide range of projects across the public and private sectors. You'll gain hands-on exposure from day one, with responsibilities gradually increasing as your confidence and experience grow.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications

  • Supporting senior planners on appeals, site appraisals, and policy research

  • Liaising with local authorities, clients, and other stakeholders

  • Undertaking planning research and contributing to written reports

  • Keeping up to date with local and national planning policy

About You

This role would suit someone who is motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.

You'll ideally have:

  • A degree (or Master's) in Town Planning or a related discipline

  • A genuine interest in the UK planning system

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Eligibility to work in the UK

RTPI accreditation (or working towards it) would be advantageous but not essential.

What's on Offer
  • Competitive graduate-level salary

  • Structured training and mentoring from experienced planners

  • Clear progression and support towards RTPI chartership

  • Friendly, collaborative working environment

  • Exposure to a diverse and interesting project portfolio

If you're a graduate planner looking to start your career in a consultancy that offers real responsibility, professional support, and long-term progression, this is a role well worth exploring.
