Salary: First 38 hours £33.23, P1 £46.52, P2 £59.81, Potential Nonus (15%) £3.32
Position Overview
The Mechanical Fitting Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of mechanical fitters to ensure the safe, efficient, and high quality installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial mechanical equipment. This role oversees daily workflow, provides technical guidance, ensures compliance with safety and engineering standards, and supports continuous improvement across mechanical operations.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision
Lead, supervise, and support a team of mechanical fitters across planned and reactive maintenance tasks.
Allocate daily work assignments, manage labour resources, and ensure tasks are completed on time and to specification.
Mentor and develop team members, providing training, coaching, and performance feedback.
Mechanical Maintenance & Fitting
Oversee the installation, alignment, inspection, and repair of industrial mechanical systems, including pumps, conveyors, motors, gearboxes, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and associated components.
Ensure all maintenance activities follow engineering drawings, specifications, and OEM requirements.
Diagnose mechanical faults and support complex troubleshooting activities.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Enforce adherence to all site safety standards, risk assessments, permits to work, and safe working practices.
Ensure the team complies with relevant legislation, industry standards, and company policies.
Promote a strong safety culture and lead by example in all operational activities.
Planning & Documentation
Work closely with planners and engineering management to schedule planned maintenance and coordinate resources.
Ensure accurate completion of maintenance records, job cards, equipment logs, and shift reports.
Assist in developing and improving maintenance procedures and engineering documentation.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to reduce downtime, improve equipment reliability, and optimise processes.
Support root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives.
Recommend improvements to tools, methods, and maintenance strategies.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Liaise with production, engineering, and project teams to prioritise work and minimise operational disruption.
Coordinate with external contractors and suppliers when required.
Provide technical input into engineering projects and equipment upgrades.
