Department: Street Scene Salary: 18.59 per hour Contract: Permanent, Full Time Hours: 37 hours per week Working Pattern:

  • Monday-Thursday: 05:45-13:45 or 08:00-16:00

  • Friday: 05:45-13:15 or 08:00-15:30



About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Fleet Technician to join our Street Scene Transport Repair Unit. You'll play a key role in maintaining and repairing the Council's fleet, ensuring our front-line services can operate safely and efficiently.

Working both independently and as part of a small workshop team, you will carry out a wide range of maintenance, diagnostic and repair tasks across vehicles, plant, and specialist equipment.



What You'll Be Doing

As part of the Transport Repair Unit, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting safety inspections on large and light vehicles

  • Carrying out safety checks on all types of plant and equipment

  • Servicing, diagnosing, and repairing defects on a wide range of vehicles and council-owned equipment

  • Preparing vehicles for MOT and ensuring compliance with UK road safety legislation

  • Using specialist diagnostic equipment to identify and repair faults in:

    • Electrical systems

    • Hydraulics

    • Computerised container hoists & refuse bodies

    • Automatic gearboxes

    • Plant equipment

  • Completing accurate written documentation and updating the Fleet Management Software for compliance

  • Following all Council procedures and Health & Safety requirements

  • Maintaining high standards of conduct and representing the Council positively

  • Attending training courses as required



Who We're Looking For

You will be someone who takes pride in their work, thrives in a team environment, and can confidently work on your own initiative. You will also bring:

  • Strong customer care and teamwork skills

  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Confidence using a tablet for servicing, repairs, and defect reporting

  • Solid knowledge and experience in vehicle and plant maintenance

  • Willingness to work additional or unsocial hours, including Public and Statutory holidays, and in all weather conditions

  • At least 5 year's experience in the automotive industry

  • Qualifications and experience in diagnosing electrical components

  • Full understanding of automotive scanners for servicing and diagnostics

  • Experience servicing vehicles to manufacturer specifications

  • Experience preparing light vehicles and HGVs for MOT testing

  • Level 3 Heavy Vehicle qualification
