Job Description
A Weighbridge Assistant at a scrap metal yard supports weighbridge operations, vehicle movement, and site administration, ensuring accurate recording of materials and full compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
Vehicle & Weighing Operations
- Assist with weighing incoming and outgoing vehicles (deliveries and collections)
- Accurately record gross, tare, and net weights
- Verify vehicle and load details (registration, company, material type)
- Issue and file weighbridge tickets correctly
- Direct drivers to appropriate loading/unloading areas
Administration & Record Keeping
- Input weight data into weighbridge systems (e.g. ScrapIT, Weighsoft, or internal software)
- File delivery notes, transfer notes, and purchase documentation
- Match weighbridge tickets to invoices
- Maintain daily weighbridge logs
- Support end-of-day reporting and reconciliations
Compliance & Documentation
- Check Waste Transfer Notes (WTNs) and Hazardous Waste Consignment Notes
- Verify supplier and customer details for accuracy
- Ensure materials match declared descriptions
- Support environmental compliance and audit readiness
- Report discrepancies such as contamination or incorrect grading
Yard & Operational Support
- Communicate with crane operators, banksmen, and yard supervisors
- Coordinate vehicle flow to reduce congestion and delays
- Monitor site traffic and ensure safe vehicle movement
- Report unsafe practices or non-compliance issues
