Behaviour Support Assistant (Challenging Behaviour)

Location: Bristol & Bath
Salary: Day rate
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time (flexible opportunities available)

About the Role

We are looking for a committed and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join a supportive school team across Bristol and Bath. This role focuses on working closely with students who present with challenging behaviour, helping them to engage positively in their learning and develop important social and emotional skills.

You will play a key role in creating a structured, safe, and supportive environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with behavioural needs
  • Implement school behaviour strategies consistently and effectively
  • Support students in developing self-regulation, social skills, and positive behaviour patterns
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to support individual plans
  • Use de-escalation strategies calmly and professionally when needed
  • Monitor, record, and report on student behaviour and progress
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and progress

About You

We are looking for someone who brings:

  • Experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour (school or similar setting preferred)
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • The ability to remain professional under pressure
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • A genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable learners

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Qualifications in education, psychology, youth work, or related fields
  • Experience supporting SEN, SEMH, or autism
  • Behaviour management training (e.g. , Team Teach or equivalent)
