Construction Health & Safety Advisor (Freelance)

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Construction Health & Safety Advisor to join a growing business on a freelance basis delivering a high-profile construction project in Wakefield, with travel to sites in Peterborough, Ipswich, and Norwich. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and knowledgeable professional who is passionate about driving health and safety standards, ensuring compliance, and promoting a strong safety culture on site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide health and safety support across construction sites and project operations.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and compliance checks.
  • Carry out and review risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Advise site management teams on current health and safety legislation and best practice.
  • Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, and safety briefings to site personnel and contractors.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure safe systems of work are followed.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and SHEQ documentation.
  • Promote a positive and proactive health and safety culture across all projects.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders to maintain high safety standards.

Requirements:

  • A NEBOSH qualification is essential (Construction Certificate, National General Certificate, or Diploma).
  • Demonstrated experience conducting risk assessments, site audits, and incident investigations.
  • Significant UK-based construction experience with strong knowledge of current legislation, regulations, and site practices.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project teams, subcontractors, and contractors.
  • Experience working directly for major UK Tier 1 or Principal Contractors is highly advantageous.
  • Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) is preferred but not essential.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred.
