About the Role

Technical Partners is recruiting for an experienced Principal Engineer on behalf of a leading engineering and technology organisation.

This senior leadership role will see you leading the design, integration, and delivery of advanced control systems across complex, safety-critical projects within the gas and wider energy sector. You'll take ownership of projects from concept through to commissioning, providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and acting as a key client interface.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and integration of complex control systems
  • Oversee testing, validation, commissioning, and project handover
  • Produce and approve technical documentation and specifications
  • Manage technical delivery, project resources, budgets, and risks
  • Lead technical reviews and resolve engineering challenges
  • Act as the primary technical contact for clients
  • Mentor and develop engineering teams
  • Support bids and tenders with technical input and approvals
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and engineering standards
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, manufacturing, and project teams

About You

You'll have:

  • At least 7 years' experience in systems engineering, control systems, hardware, or electrical design
  • Experience delivering projects within regulated industries such as gas, energy, nuclear, utilities, or industrial manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical, PLC, SCADA, and HMI systems
  • Experience managing full project lifecycles, including commissioning
  • A solid understanding of systems integration, quality standards, and client delivery
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
