Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA)
Up to two appointments £309.75 per day 2-3 days per month Cardiff / Merthyr Tydfil

Yolk Recruitment has been appointed as the Executive Search Partner to the Welsh Revenue Authority for this important Board appointment.

The Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA) is entering an exciting new chapter, and we are seeking up to two Non-Executive Board Members to help shape its future.

Since its establishment in 2018, the WRA has collected more than £2.7 billion in Land Transaction Tax and Landfill Disposals Tax, generating vital revenue that supports public services across Wales. Its responsibilities are now expanding to include the National Register for visitor accommodation providers and delivery of a Visitor Levy, marking an important evolution for the organisation.

The WRA is a non-Ministerial Welsh Government department, providing independence in operational decision-making while working closely with Welsh Government, taxpayers, businesses and partners across Wales.

Its Corporate Plan for focuses on three priorities: Easy - making it easy for people to do the right thing; Fair - delivering services fairly and consistently; and Sustainable - building a sustainable, future-focused organisation.

The Opportunity

Non-Executive Board Members will provide strategic leadership, constructive challenge and assurance as the WRA develops. Working with the Chair, Chief Executive, Executive Members and fellow Non-Executives, they will contribute to strategy, performance, governance, risk, organisational change and stakeholder relationships, while bringing an external perspective on emerging risks and opportunities.

We are keen to hear from people with experience or insight in one or more of the following areas:

  • Digital transformation, cyber security or AI

  • The political landscape in Wales

  • Tourism

  • The UK tax landscape

Previous Board experience is not essential. The WRA welcomes individuals operating at strategic level who are looking to make their first Non-Executive appointment.

You will need strong strategic thinking, governance and risk awareness, financial acumen, constructive challenge, communication and relationship-building skills, alongside a commitment to integrity, equality, diversity and inclusion. Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential.

Appointment Details

  • Initial appointment of up to four years

  • 2-3 days per month

  • £309.75 per day, pro rata

  • Online and in-person meetings, generally in Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil

  • Full induction and ongoing development support
