Trade Development Manager - Import Far East

Full time, permanent

We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Trade Manager to play a key role in the management and growth of our pivotal Far East Import Trade. Working closely with the Senior Trade Manager, UK leadership and Geneva Head Office, you will be responsible for implementing and influencing ocean pricing strategies, maximising revenue opportunities and driving sustainable market share growth.

How you will help us and what you can expect

  • Implement, promote and influence sea freight pricing policy in conjunction with the Senior Trade Manager and MSC Geneva Head Office
  • Set, monitor and achieve budgets supported by the UK Sales Team and in line with MSC Geneva Head Office and UK management aspirations
  • Maximise both revenue and market share by knowing the competition and the current/potential customer base
  • Provide and delegate reports, statistics and analysis to MSC UK and MSC Geneva on all trade matters
  • Work with the UK Sales Team, Logistics and MSC Geneva Head Office to identify/secure appropriate carrier haulage opportunities
  • Take ownership and complete analysis of the intermodal/ancillary revenue vs expected collection
  • Monitor geopolitical developments and report on risks/opportunities
  • Line management of two team members but overall management responsibility of 8 staff
  • Maintain a high performing, enjoyable yet accountable team culture
  • Regular client visits to promote relationships and attract new business
  • Occasional overseas travel

Skills and experience you'll bring to us

  • Deep understanding of container logistics, both sea and land, including significant exposure to the Far East Westbound market
  • Thorough knowledge of both MSC's services and those of other carriers operating on the FEWB trade
  • Appreciation for the operational / commercial / regulatory challenges faced by ocean carriers and those of our customers, both Freight Forwarders and BCOs
  • Strong social, presentation and influencing skills with experience of negotiation up to board level
  • A proven leader; highly motivated, empathetic, passionate and accountable
  • Proficiency in all areas of Microsoft Office including Power BI
  • Experience within an Ocean Carrier is considered an advantage
  • A degree or equivalent in a relevant field is considered an advantage
