Our client Staffordshire Police are seeking a dedicated Payroll Officer to join their team based in Cannock. This temporary role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the payroll operations of an esteemed institution for a contract length of 12 months.

Position Details:


Contract Type: Temporary
Hourly Rate: 14.55
Working Pattern: Full Time - Hybrid
Location: Cannock

Role Overview:
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in maintaining the effective operation of all payroll and pensions remedy activities. Responsibilities will include ensuring accurate and timely input of information into the payroll system, adhering to statutory and legislative compliance, and providing exceptional customer service to both Officers and Staff.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently manage the monthly payroll cycle for Staffordshire Police, ensuring pay-affecting transactions are processed accurately and timely.
  • Address complex payroll-related queries from employees and stakeholders, providing expert advice on PAYE, NI, SMP, SSP, and Pension.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks and resolve discrepancies to ensure accurate payroll processing.
  • Assist in historical pay cases and maintain compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Support the Payroll & Pensions Manager with ad-hoc projects and data requests.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
To excel in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in a payroll function, demonstrating a thorough understanding of payroll and employment legislation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships at all levels.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and implementing process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • GCSEs in Mathematics and English at Grade C (4) or above.
  • Familiarity with an integrated HR and Payroll system is advantageous.
