Job Description

Planning Lawyer

£55,000-£70,000 DOE Permanent

Planning Lawyers are a scarce breed, so you should not have to settle for repetitive work or a role with nowhere to go.

A Top 200 regional law firm is looking for a Planning Lawyer to join its established commercial property offering. You will work on high-quality planning and environmental matters, supported by experienced Senior Lawyers and a wider real-estate team.

What's in it for you?

  • £55,000-£70,000, depending on experience
  • High-quality planning and environmental work
  • Access to experienced senior Lawyers and specialists
  • Chelmsford or Bishop's Stortford office options
  • Generous annual leave and your birthday off
  • The option to purchase additional holiday
  • Structured training and career-development resources
  • A well-resourced regional platform without the London commute

The role

The position offers a broad mix of advisory, transactional and contentious planning work. You will:

  • Advise on planning applications, appeals and enforcement matters
  • Work on judicial reviews and complex planning challenges
  • Draft and negotiate Section 106 agreements
  • Prepare other planning agreements and supporting documents
  • Conduct legal research and produce advice notes, reports and briefings
  • Support senior Lawyers on complex planning and environmental cases
  • Liaise with developers, local authorities and other stakeholders
  • Provide commercially focused advice as part of the wider property team

You

You will be a qualified Lawyer with relevant planning experience and a sound understanding of English planning law and procedure.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience advising on planning applications, agreements or disputes
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills
  • Commercial awareness and clear legal judgement
  • The ability to explain technical issues without disappearing into legal fog
  • Confidence dealing with clients and external stakeholders
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to support wider team development

Whether you are already a dedicated Planning Lawyer or have developed a substantial planning specialism within a property or public-law practice, this could offer the stronger platform you have been looking for.
