Conservation Officer

Contract
£198.19 per day PAYE or £275 per day limited paid via Umbrella company inside IR35
Our client is looking for an experienced Conservation Officer
On site for site visits 1 2 days per week.
the delivery of the Council's historic environment functions.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a large and diverse historic county containing a significant number of listed buildings, conservation areas, registered parks and gardens, scheduled monuments and other heritage assets.
Key Responsibilities
Assess and provide recommendations on listed building consent applications, planning applications and related heritage consultations.
Provide specialist conservation advice on proposals affecting listed buildings, conservation areas, registered parks and gardens and other designated and non-designated heritage assets.
Respond to pre-application enquiries and provide advice to applicants, agents and colleagues.
Undertake site visits as required.
Prepare written consultation responses, reports and recommendations.
Assist with conservation area matters, heritage projects and policy work where required.
Support the monitoring and resolution of Buildings at Risk cases.
Liaise with Historic England, local amenity societies, town and parish councils, applicants and other stakeholders.
Attend meetings and represent the Historic Environment Team as required.

Essential Requirements
Demonstrable experience working as a Conservation Officer or in a similar historic environment role.
Good knowledge of:
Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990;
National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF);
Historic England guidance and conservation best practice.
Experience of assessing proposals affecting heritage assets and preparing written recommendations.
Excellent report-writing and communication skills.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Desirable Requirements
Membership of IHBC, RTPI, RIBA or other relevant professional body.
Experience working within a Local Planning Authority.
Experience preparing Conservation Area Appraisals, management plans or heritage guidance documents.
Experience of heritage enforcement and Buildings at Risk work.
Working Arrangements
The role is primarily hybrid, with a combination of home working, office attendance and site visits across Shropshire. A flexible approach to working arrangements can be considered.
