Our client is a leading company, offering research services to the Drug Discovery sector. They collaborate with lead researchers and organisations to enhance the understanding of immunological, oncological, neurological and other disease areas. Based in Alderley Park, they are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and hard-working individual to join their Biomarker team as a Scientist on a temporary contract basis due to a flurry of new projects, focused on metabolomics, lipidomics and proteomics studies utilising mass spectrometry and mass spec imaging techniques.
The Role
This is a role for Scientist who have significant experience in biomarker mass spec (MS) experience. As a Biomarker Scientist, you will be responsible for:
- Design and deliver end-to-end MS workflows, from sample preparation through to data interpretation
- Develop and implement innovative methodologies to address biological questions
- Interpret experimental outputs and collaborate with scientists to translate data into meaningful conclusions
- Deliver high-quality, reproducible data packages to internal and external stakeholders
- Contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory processes, data workflows, and quality standards
- Maintain accurate experimental records and documentation in line with best practices
- Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and external partners
- Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., analytical chemistry, biology, bioinformatics, or related field) or equivalent experience with a BSc / MSc (essential)
- Strong hands-on experience in mass spectrometry (essential)
- Proficiency in MS data analysis, processing, and interpretation (essential)
- Experience handling biological samples and associated preparation techniques (essential)
- Ability to work across both experimental and computational aspects of MS workflows
- Good understanding of biochemical and molecular biology principles + Ability to handle biological samples
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative environment
Desirable
- Experience in metabolomics, lipidomics, or proteomics
- Experience with MS imaging and spatial analysis approaches is an advantage
- Experience applying statistical modelling or machine learning to biological datasets
- Experience designing biomarker studies (e.g., experimental design, power calculations)
- Knowledge of GCLP or regulated environments
- Experience in drug discovery or working with SMEs
