Highway Safety Inspector
An excellent opportunity for an experienced Highways Inspector to support the safety and maintenance of a busy highway network. This role focuses on delivering statutory inspections, identifying defects, and ensuring timely, risk-based interventions in line with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out statutory safety inspections and highway asset condition surveys
Identify, assess, and categorise defects for appropriate remedial action
Support delivery of Cat 2 works and development of Cat 3 proposals
Contribute to annual highways maintenance and planned works programmes
Provide local network intelligence to support operational teams
Ensure compliance with relevant inspection policies and procedures
Maintain accurate records and up-to-date inspection knowledge
Support service planning and continuous improvement initiatives
Ensure all works align with health & safety, quality, and environmental standards
Requirements:
ONC or City & Guilds (or equivalent) in Highway Safety Inspection
NRSWA Supervisor accreditation
Strong understanding of risk-based highway inspection processes
Proven experience identifying and assessing highway defects
Knowledge of UK highways maintenance best practice and codes of practice
Understanding of civil engineering / highways operational delivery
Familiarity with construction methods, H&S, and traffic management regulations
Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
Local network knowledge desirable
