An opportunity for an experienced Principal Strategic Planning Lead to drive the development and delivery of a Spatial Development Strategy (SDS) in line with the Planning and Infrastructure Bill 2025 and national policy.
This role leads strategic planning across boundaries, shaping policies on land use, housing, infrastructure, and environmental recovery, while aligning with priorities for sustainable growth.
Key responsibilities:
Lead preparation, adoption, and review of the SDS
Develop strategic policies across housing, infrastructure, and nature recovery
Work collaboratively with neighbouring authorities and key stakeholders
Integrate economic, social, and environmental objectives into planning
Champion digital planning, GIS, and data-led decision making
Support effective public and stakeholder engagement
Provide expert advice to senior leadership and decision-makers
Requirements:
Significant experience in strategic/spatial planning
Strong knowledge of national planning policy and legislation
Proven leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience using GIS and spatial data to inform planning
A key role influencing sustainable, inclusive, and resilient growth at a strategic level.
