Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Traffic Signals Engineer to lead the design, delivery, and optimisation of signal-controlled junctions and crossings across the local network. You will play a key role in improving traffic flow, safety, and network efficiency while supporting wider transport strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and review traffic signal schemes using industry standards (e.g. MOVA, SCOOT, UTC systems)
  • Manage projects from feasibility through to implementation and post-installation review
  • Analyse traffic data to optimise signal timings and network performance
  • Oversee maintenance, upgrades, and fault resolution of signal assets
  • Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders, including elected members and the public
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and health & safety requirements
  • Contribute to transport planning initiatives and smart mobility projects

Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in traffic signals engineering within a local authority or consultancy
  • Strong knowledge of UK standards (e.g. TSRGD, DfT guidance)
  • Experience with signal design tools and modelling software
