Job Description

HR ADVISOR - EMPLOYEE RELATIONS (12m FTC)

  • Rendall & Rittner • Competitive • Home Based

ROLE OVERVIEW

During this 12 month fixed term contract, you will be the go-to advisor for all things employee relations, providing confident, timely and pragmatic guidance across a varied caseload. From disciplinaries and grievances to absence, performance and complex restructures, you will help leaders reach fair, compliant and people-centred outcomes that protect our culture and our business.

Working from home, you will partner with managers across our nationwide operations, building their confidence and capability while ensuring consistency with UK employment law and company policy. You will balance detail and pace, documenting thoroughly, anticipating risks early and guiding consultations that land change well.

ROLE EXPECTATIONS

Most days you will be advising managers on live ER cases, drafting documentation, preparing for and attending hearings remotely, and guiding consultation processes for restructures. You will keep meticulous records, update trackers, and collaborate with HR colleagues to spot trends, improve policies and upskill our managers.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • You resolve ER cases promptly with well-reasoned, risk-aware advice that stands up to scrutiny.
  • Restructure consultations are delivered to plan, with clear communications and compliant documentation.
  • Managers feel supported and more capable, evidenced by consistent feedback and fewer escalations.
  • Case records are complete, accurate and audit-ready, with actions tracked to closure.
  • You identify patterns and recommend practical policy or training improvements that reduce issues.
  • Stakeholders trust your judgement, and you communicate difficult messages with empathy and clarity.

HOW YOU'LL SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME

  • Managing a mixed ER caseload end-to-end: disciplinaries, grievances, performance, absence and appeals.
  • Planning and supporting restructures and redundancies, including timelines, scripts, letters and consultations.
  • Coaching managers to handle conversations well and make fair, consistent decisions.
  • Drafting and reviewing documentation: investigation reports, outcome letters, settlement agreements and notes.
  • Keeping case trackers, MI and risk logs up to date, and preparing clear summaries for stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with HR colleagues and external advisors to ensure compliance and best practice.

WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR

  • You are a calm, pragmatic advisor who balances empathy with sound commercial judgement.
  • You build trust quickly, communicate clearly and handle sensitive information with absolute discretion.
  • You are organised and self-motivated, thriving in a home-based role with competing priorities.
  • You are solution-focused, anticipating risks and guiding managers to fair, compliant outcomes.
  • You are a continuous improver who turns insights into simple, practical changes.

EXPERIENCE THAT HELPS

  • Managing a high-volume ER caseload in a multi-site or service-led organisation.
  • Supporting restructures and redundancies, including collective or individual consultation.
  • Working with employee representatives or unions and navigating sensitive stakeholder dynamics.
  • Using HRIS and case management systems to maintain accurate records and MI.
  • Designing or delivering ER training or toolkits for managers.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive salary, aligned to experience
  • Discretionary bonus
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Private medical insurance, life assurance and enhanced family leave
  • Fully funded training and professional development
  • Pension scheme and employee assistance programme
  • Discounts across travel, retail, fitness and entertainment
