Skilled CNC Engineer

Salary: Circa £35,000Location: SouthendHours: Monday to Thursday, 06:45 - 16:30 (37-hour week)

Are you an experienced CNC Engineer looking to develop your skills further? We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and adaptable CNC Engineer to join a busy precision engineering environment supporting the aerospace sector.

This role is ideal for a candidate who has experience setting and operating CNC machinery and is eager to expand their capabilities by learning centreless grinding as part of their day-to-day responsibilities.

The Role

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for setting and running a variety of CNC and secondary operation machine tools while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and operate CNC machines, lathes, and manual machines.
  • Learn and develop centreless grinding skills as part of the role.
  • Safely operate secondary operation machinery including thread rollers, part markers, drill banks, depitching presses, torque testers, and deburring equipment.
  • Carry out first-off inspections, buddy checks, and in-process quality inspections.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Accurately measure components using micrometres and other inspection equipment, working to tight tolerances.
  • Manufacture components in line with quality standards and aerospace industry requirements.
  • Complete daily maintenance checks and production documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce scrap, minimise rework, and improve productivity.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised work environment.
  • Support on-time delivery targets and contribute to key production performance measures.

About You

  • Previous CNC machining experience within a precision engineering environment.
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of aerospace quality standards.
  • Experience working with materials including aluminium, stainless steel, and Inconel.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
  • Confident using micrometres and measuring equipment to tight tolerances.
  • Grinding experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Positive team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Proactive approach to continuous improvement and efficiency.
