Transport & Operations Coordinator

Location: Bury St Edmunds

Hours: Full-time, 42.5 hours per week, 8.00am - 5.30pm

Contract: Permanent

The Role

We are looking for an organised and proactive Transport & Operations Coordinator to join a busy operational environment.

This varied role will be responsible for coordinating day-to-day transport planning, production scheduling and goods inwards/outwards, helping to ensure customer orders are planned, produced and delivered efficiently and on time.

Working closely with operations, production, warehouse, procurement, customers, suppliers and transport providers, you will play a key role in keeping the operation running smoothly.

This would suit someone with experience in transport, logistics, manufacturing or operational coordination who enjoys a varied role and is confident managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Transport Planning

  • Coordinate and schedule daily transport operations, including deliveries and collections.
  • Develop efficient delivery routes and vehicle schedules, considering customer requirements, driver availability, vehicle capacity and compliance.
  • Liaise with drivers, customers, suppliers and third-party logistics providers.
  • Monitor transport performance and respond proactively to delays, route changes and operational issues.
  • Communicate delivery instructions, customer requirements and site restrictions to drivers and subcontract hauliers.
  • Coordinate transport requirements with production schedules to ensure delivery commitments are met.
  • Maintain accurate transport documentation.

Production Planning

  • Assist with planning and coordinating production schedules to meet customer demand.
  • Work closely with Production, Warehouse and Procurement teams to ensure materials, labour and equipment are available.
  • Update production schedules in response to customer priorities, capacity and delivery requirements.
  • Monitor production progress and make schedule adjustments where required.
  • Review production capacity, lead times and workflows to identify opportunities for improved efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate production records and communicate schedule changes across relevant departments.
  • Ensure production documentation is completed accurately and on time.

Goods Inwards & Outwards

  • Oversee the receipt, inspection and recording of incoming goods.
  • Check deliveries against purchase orders and identify shortages, damages or discrepancies.
  • Coordinate stock storage and movement within the warehouse.
  • Manage the picking, packing and dispatch of outgoing goods.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through stock checks, system updates and reconciliation.
  • Ensure goods movements comply with relevant procedures, health and safety requirements and quality standards.
  • Ensure delivery documentation accurately reflects goods dispatched.
  • Liaise with Procurement regarding material availability and delivery schedules.
  • Coordinate stock transfers and support stock control activities.

Customer Service & Operations

  • Keep customers informed regarding production progress, delivery schedules and operational changes.
  • Respond promptly to transport and operational enquiries.
  • Resolve routine issues professionally and efficiently.
  • Build strong working relationships with customers, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams.
  • Support continuous improvement across transport, production and operational processes.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

  • Previous experience within transport planning, logistics, manufacturing or operational coordination.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • A customer-focused approach.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to build effective relationships across different departments.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to changing operational requirements.

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Manufacturing
  • Construction
  • Reinforcement steel or a similar industrial environment
  • Production planning
  • Stock control and warehouse operations
  • Transport legislation and driver hours
